This is very much the case with LED lights, as in our LED mirrors and Illuminated mirrors. It was a gentleman by the name of H.J. Round who worked for Marconi, who first discovered the marvel of what is know as electroluminescence, as far back as 1907.

A Russian by the name of Losev, claimed to have invented the very first LED ten years later in 1927, although no real or practical use was found for this until many years later. Through their experiments in 1961, the Americans, Pittman and Baird obtained patents for infrared LED whilst working at the Texas instruments company.

A Nick Holanyak Jr., is known to have produced the very first practical application with a red LED whilst at GEC in 1962 and is very much known as the father of the light emitting diode, although George Craford a student of Nicks, invented the yellow LED back in 1972.

So far, we'll still quite a way to go before the technology for our type of LED mirrors and Illuminated mirrors appears but in 1968, the Monsanto Company were the first to mass produce LED's that then started to appear in TV's, radios, watches and calculators etc.

Over the following years, the materials and the technology for developing LED lights grew, making them more efficient and reliable. In 1994, Shuji Nakamamura of the Nichia Corporation had developed the first high brightness blue LED which quickly led to the development of the first white LED. In 2006, Shuji Nakamamura received the coveted Millennium Technology Prize for his invention.
